Makita Cordless

Do I need a chuck for my drill?

I bought a Makita 10.8 V Ultra-Compact cordless drill. It has a 1/4" hex shank. How do I put drill bits in it? Do I need to buy a separate chuck?

You can buy a separate chuck for that purpose. I own a milwaukee in the same setup. although with the chuck, its not as good as a real drill. but it will work

Makita Power Tools

Makita began building its reputation for quality over 85 years ago, when the company started manufacturing electric motors. Since the first electric power tool was produced by Makita in 1958, users have come to rely on the craftsmanship of these tools as well as the brand's excellent customer service. Makita owes its reputation for building outstanding quality power.

Today Makita is one of the world's largest power tool manufacturers with seven manufacturing facilities globally and a selection of over 350 superior, innovative tools. The tools are still engineered to Makita's exacting standards, in Makita's own factories.

Makita tools come only in a distinctive teal color, making them easily recognized although this is easily imitated by manufactures who wish to benefit from their reputation as a manufacturer of quality tools.

With tools such as the MXT Cordless Drill, you get an all-metal transmission, one-touch drill-to-driver mode, and precision balance in a lightweight yet heavy-duty body. MXT is the next generation in drilling power and control; high speeds of up to 1,700rpm can be achieved within seconds. In addition to their popular drills, they manufacture a host of power tools that can all be run by the same rechargeable battery.

Makita power tools have the longest lasting and most efficient motors of any power tool on the market. With their dual ball bearings, Makita power tools create less friction, which reduces wear on the motor. Makita tools also contain a high-performance fan, which reduces the working temperature of the tool, increasing its life span. All Makita tools represent good honest value-for-money especially when you consider the amount of Equipment you get that comes as standard (often it's as good as a free angle grinder or impact driver) with most tools at no extra charge.

All Makita tools are built to the highest standards of quality and innovation, but when that tool breaks down everything is not lost. Being able to change your Makita brushes, you can keep the motor operating at optimum efficiency.

Makita's top end heavy duty cordless series are mostly based around the new Li-ion type of batteries. Lithium-Ion Battery technology brings power to cordless machines like never seen before. Lithium-ion cordless tools provide more power with less weight.

Whether you need a circular saw or an impact driver, a wrench or a flashlight, Makita offers a full line of cordless products.

Does anyone know why my Craftsman table saw is so slow?

I bought a new Craftsman table saw in 2006 and from the beginning it has had almost no power. I even switched it over to 220 volts and it runs exactly the same. I have used dozens of table saws in my time and this saw is not normal. I have a Makita job-site saw that has three times the power as the Craftsman. What's up with this? Has Craftsman taken all the power out of the saw to promote safety? If so it has the opposite effect. Or should I fit the saw with another motor?

The power an electric motor has is rated in Amps. compare their.

Choosing an 18 Volt Makita Cordless Tool

Most people have favorites. You may like Ford over GM, Pepsi over Coke, country over rock or any number of choices but what about your power tools? There are the four or five main brands plus many smaller lines available. What make you favorite tool manufacturer your favorite.

If you have a specific trade you are involved with, you may have found a line that has proven perfect for your trade in cost, durability and power. While I feel those probably are the main reasons for anyone to choose a tool, think about variety offered by a tool line. Consider for one the 18 Volt Makita Cordless line.

I was amazed when I took a close look at the 18 Volt Makita Cordless tool line up. By far the most common Makita 18 Volt tool is the 18 volt drills, especially the lithium line. Makita has led the way on the lithium front, some of the other players are just starting to come out with lithium tools. But the 18 Volt Makita line really offers much more than drills.

Did you know there is such a thing as a cordless rebar cutter? Makita offers an 18 Volt rebar cutter that can cut a piece of rebar quickly and easily. Now, I know, not many of you want or need a rebar cutter, but for the contractor who does, buying into the Makita line makes sense.

When DeWalt came out with a charger radio for their cordless tool line, they sold lots and lots of power tools. Not just because they have a good line, but they were the only ones with a radio charger. I can tell you from experience, it was very difficult to switch a guy from DeWalt to any line if they didn't have a charger radio. Then as more time went buy, when they needed tools, the obvious choice was to stay with what they had so they could interchange batteries and use their radio. Well, rest assured, Makita has a charger radio.

The 18 Volt Makita Cordless line also includes a variety of impact drivers. You can get them in Nicad, NIMH or lithium versions. But in addition to that they have them with the standard ¼" hex drive or the square drive for use with standard sockets so the tool becomes more useful in an automotive application.

Makita has also done a good job of making combo kits that include some of the more standard tools mixed with some of tools that you may use less often but still are nice to have without having to buy another kit and doubling up on chargers and batteries.

The 18 Volt Makita cordless line also contains tools like metal cutting saws, recip saws, jig saws, florescent lights, leaf blowers, cut off tools, lithium screwdrivers and more.

So, if you like cordless tools, and you like versatility, next time you are looking check out the 18 Volt Makita Cordless line of tools for a truly wide range of cordless tools.

Woodworking is a craft of creating furniture or anything that is made of wood. The most common types of wood used for woodworking are hardwood, softwood, and the most recent man made materials like MDF and plywood. While traditional hand tools can execute well for woodworking, the need for power tools and modern equipments are also vital for further productivity and convenience.

Traditional woodworkers normally use manual hand tools as well as simple measuring tools. In spite of that, they can accurately create beautiful furniture. However, traditional skills and tools require much more time to complete a project. With this concern, many woodworkers have shifted to utilizing modern woodworking machines and more accurate measuring tools. These modern tools and machines offer woodworkers ease of doing even the toughest projects in less time. With these features, woodworkers can perform with increased productivity and greater precision.

It is a fact that woodworkers must have the proper tools whether it is hand tools or power tools so that outstanding wood crafts can be built. It is also vital that they learn the proper way of using these tools. Below are some of the essential tools needed for woodworking shops. We start with the most basic to the most hi-end power tools which a woodworker ought to have.

Hammers

Hammers are mostly used by traditional woodworkers. This tool is a general woodworking tool and is necessary especially when applying nails for crafting furniture. Merely because you love woodwork, it does not mean your workmanship is not a spare-time activity

A spare-time activity must be vested on. You would not have a difficult time doing so, as the affair is there in the first place. Hence, motivation and drive are apparently inherent as well.

Newcomers to woodworking often wonder what the necessary tools in starting up a workshop are. The solution varies from one woodworker to the next, because there's a tenacious list of required tools in the beginning. Plus, it depends upon the project.

For a good example, you travel to your nearest tool store to purchase a power tool. At present there's a diversity of manufacturers and naturally, prices differ as well. Like in any merchandise, the more expensive, and so the better the quality. Finer quality tools in woodwork have better design features and functions, in addition to a high tolerance in manufacturing, they in addition perform better.

Purchase the finest tool that you are able to afford. Start a budget on how much you're willing to spend on a specific tool. This is significant since you'll be using your tools on a frequent basis.

And if you're just starting out and you are able to only spend limited cash to establish your woodworking workshop, do not try for the absolute best then. You will be able to fall back on the ones that are relied on by most woodworkers that come in a reasonable price.

There are exclusions to the universal principle noted above. If woodworking is simply a spare-time activity you enjoy during the weekend, then you don't have to get the top-of-the-notch tools.

The key is acquiring a tool that's within your budget. But as often as possible, veer away from the cheapest tools and materials. They being cheap already tells something - these aren’t worth purchasing.

Here are the most common tools a woodworking newbie must have in his shop.

1. Electric Drill and Drill Bits - Electric drills are by far the first power tool purchased, they have so many uses besides drilling holes, there are attachments to turn them into paint mixers, sanders, screwdrivers, saws, grinders, lathes, the list goes on.

2. Electric Circular Saw - These can be very handy when cutting your wood pieces.  No need to break the bank on this, however.  Find one that’s easy for you to use and reliable.

3. Finishing Sander

These are used for sanding and finishing your projects. It can also be employed to smooth wood to clear out the edges.

4. Jig Saw - While not completely necessary, a good jig saw can help make your woodworking projects easier.  They can add some eye-catching detail to a piece and make cutting wood easier as well.

5. Table Saw

Comparable to the drill, this is an additional tool that you must own and invest in. Though there are a few cheap table saws simply they're not as powerful as the high-ticket ones. They do not work equally well as you desire too. Acquire a table saw with a strong motor, one that's powerful enough that it can be used time and time again. If not, the blade will drag during the course of you ripping wood. It may even burn a few of your precious designs and no woodworker would desire that. Again there are loads of plans for jigs for this work horse.

6. Router - Routers have become one of the most used tools in a workshop, possibly even more popular than a table saw. A well equipped shop will have both a plunge base and a fixed base router; it is now possible to get a combination kit where one machine has both bases.

7. Compound Miter Saw

These are portable and used to cut miters, long wood stock and moldings. A great deal easier to handle than the table saw. You will be able to find plans on the internet for a neat table for this tool.

8. Drill Press

This tool is a workhorse in the shop it can be use for drilling holes, sanding with a sanding drum attachment.

9. Biscuit Joiner

Nifty tool for joining pieces of wood together. The tool cuts pocket-sized slots in every side of the join. The biscuit is inserted and glued in between, binding the parts altogether.

10. Basic Hand Tools

Claw hammers are the most common types of hammers used for woodworking and general repairs around the home.

Screwdrivers are needed for almost every woodworking project.  Make sure you have various sizes of both Phillips head and flat head.

Wood chisels range in size from 1/4" to 2" wide in 1/8" graduations. They are available with wooden or plastic handles.

Tape measures come in a variety of widths and lengths. I would not recommend anything less than 3/4" wide for a tape over 6 feet long as they can not be extended out and remain rigid.

Clamps - Any project that is glued requires clamping to insure that the parts are bonded firmly in exactly the right position.

Finally, keep a wet / dry shop vacuum nearby so that you can quickly clean up wood shavings and dust. Keeping dust and wood particles to a minimum will reduce the risk of wood shop fires and help you breathe easier, too.

As a woodworking newcomer, you must have the best tools you are able to afford. However that also depends upon the projects that you plan on making. Prior to traveling to your closest home building provider to purchase your tools, think over what precisely you'll be constructing.
