Anyone's garden can benefit from a storage shed. In fact no garden should be without a shed because they are so useful. They can be used for all sorts of different things from potting up plants to storing tools and sporting equipment. A shed is a great place to keep the rain off and make sure that everything lasts as long as possible.

For over 12,000 shed and woodwork plans click here now!

Buying a flat packed storage shed can be expensive, the other option is to build one yourself with a shed plans. It is more complicated than you might imagine and its by no means a small project. It will be worth the work if you are committed to the task. As long as you take your time you shouldnt have any problems.

Be Prepared!

Planning and preparation is essential for any DIY project.. You will quickly become unstuck if you just try to do it yourself without following a proper shed plan.

By planning you will be able to make sure you have the right materials and tools before you start the job. This will make it easier to stay on budget and on schedule. Not using a plan for any DIY project is always asking for trouble.

Where Do You Start?

You will first need to choose an area of your garden where you want your shed. You will need to level out the ground if it is not already as your area needs to be perfectly level for your shed. Big trees around or above your shed may cause damage to your shed and shorten it's life so it is worth noting anything in the area.Ensure you know what the shed will be used for as this will help you decide the size and could even effect where it will be built.. The shed needs to be in a convienient location and easy to get into, possible even in wet weather.

Materials

Most sheds will be made out of wood and this is quite easy to work with. If you are using wood then ensure the wood is suitable for it's intended use and treat if needed. There are many other material needed to build a shed such as nails, screws & roofing felt. By planning properly you will be able to save time by having everything ready before you begin.

When to do What

Knowing exactly how long each stage should take you will help others around you understand when and how long you will be busy for.. Reaching your target will be easier if you stick to a schedule. This is especially true for big projects. Tracking what you have to do is easier on a big project if you have broken it down into smaller chunks and scheduled a plan. You may underestimate how long things will take so planning a schedule will help you identify items that are taking longer and adjust as needed. I am not pretending it is an easy job but it is a job most people will be able to do will good planning. They can be really enjoyable and rewarding. If you do struggle then ask your friends or family for help.

Take your time with the planning stage as it is the most important stage. As long as you stick to your detailed plan then you shouldn't have a problem. If you are not happy with your plan then don't start you building project and plan again.

Hardly anything compares to the satisfaction of creating take a tech ed as simple or as challenging as you want.

Looking at a table or mirror with etched glass or etched mirror scenes in them make the piece more elegant and catches everybody's glance. Shopping around and noticing the cost of project plans however is something that deters many people away from them. By building coffee tables, end tables, or mirrors using free woodworking plans and then finding the reasonably priced glass one can own a striking and functional piece of artwork that they can keep for themselves, give as gifts, or re-sell all while having the satisfaction and cost effectiveness of doing it themselves.

Paying for plans is a step in the wrong direction when building furniture. Often times with the high cost of woodworking plans it would have been smarter to simply buy the furniture brand new from the factory, not to mention there is the chance that the end result doesn't meet your satisfaction. But by using free woodworking plans, at the very worst, the result is a small investment in the wood and a little time rather than great cost. Adding a little extra to the wood piece is always a nice touch as well. Adding an etched glass or etched mirror onto the top or side of a table or into a wood mirror is a great way to personalize the work.

Virtually any shape can be etched into glass to add a touch of personality to the table. The style of a piece with these is a classy addition and offering the free woodworking plans to incorporate these etching is a great alternative for all wood-workers. Woodworking projects are becoming more difficult to complete because of rising costs of materials and less time to invest in a given project. Woodworking is often treated as a leisure activity that can be exploited with expensive tools and high-priced wood, but it is an asset to a woodworker to have a good set of plans to make sure that the end result is a functional masterpiece and not just a wobbly table.

Using free plans that are also simple and accomplishable is a great way to make sure those unique woodworking projects are still able to be built and look even better than the everyday pieces for sale. Paying for anything but materials is a waste of a wood worker's time, and trying to personalize wood can be a difficult and high-priced addition as well. Adding etched glass or etched mirror designed with wildlife, flowers, scenery, and many other things to a wood project with free plans allows you to build your own unique work while still saving on expenses.

Woodworking patterns are like blueprints for your woodworking project. It is a great guide to refer to throughout your job. You will have enough on your mind with getting the right materials, measurements and tools. With a woodworking pattern in the shop, you have one less thing on your mind. And, if you screw up, you can always blame the woodworking pattern.

Also Called Templates

Before writing this article, I asked my Dad, a lifelong carpenter, if he used woodworking patterns in his job. There was dead silence on the other end of the phone, and then he hesitantly asked, You mean a template?

It might help you to look for a saw template rather than a woodworking pattern, but whatever you call it, it can make your woodworking job easier. And yes, Dad has used templates or woodworking patterns nearly every day on the job for over forty years. My Dad even uses templates for working with glass. We use templates in lots of ways without realizing it. A cookie cutter, a stencil, a sewing pattern they are all kinds of templates.

Essential For Saws

Measure twice, cut once, of course. But you can conserve your wood usage on a project with fewer mistakes by using woodworking patterns. Although you can download them for free from the web, my Dad prefers to make his own from plywood, scrap wood or even really stiff cardboard.

He makes the design he wants to cut out of the wood on the template material. Then he cuts the template out. Then, he tapes or blue tacks the woodworking pattern on the wood and traces the design in a thick black pen (or another color pen if his coworkers steal his black pen). Then, he removed the template. The templates are often only used once or twice, depending on what kind of material its made out of. The design that the woodworking pattern left on the wood is then put to the jigsaw.

What You Get

If you buy a template from a store or download one online, you need to keep a few things in mind:

Do you have both the tools and the experience for the job?

Can you use the woodworking pattern on the wood of your choice? Pine works well for all kinds of shapes, but not plywood, for example, which tends to fracture if you try to cut circles out of it.

A good woodworking pattern will not only show you where to cut the wood, but will also go on to explain how the pieces youve just cut out fit into your project.

Finding free woodworking plans to do your home projects is simple. However, selecting the good from the bad can be challenging, especially if you are not an experienced woodworker. Free woodworking plans can be downloaded from a variety of websites and most are in PDF format so be sure that you have Adobe Reader installed to view them. It is a free download from Adobe's website so you should have no problems getting it. Even better, on most computers it is already installed.

The first step in choosing what woodworking plan to use is to decide on what you want to make. This will obviously limit the number of choices you have. For your first project I would recommend doing something common like a table or simple piece of furniture so you have more options. Designing and building a full size yacht from free online woodworking plans is probably not a good idea, but a simple end table will give you a ton of choices and also let you look at good and bad plans.

Finding Your End Table Woodworking Plans

In addition to the internet, local woodworking groups are a great resource for information on woodworking plans. Advice is free so use it as much as you can. This advice can help point you in a direction for the style of table you want to build and this guide can not really make any recommendations on that as it is up to your personal taste.

Once you have selected a style, search the internet for some plans. The first thing to make sure of is that the plan has pictures of the finished product as well as pictures detailing the steps in its manufacture.

Avoid plans that read like a story as well because these can sometimes be long winded and difficult to follow step by step. However, a good plan should have some elements of flow to it and not read like a shopping list.

You want to avoid woodworking plans that do not provide specific instructions on the tools required, the materials you will need, and most importantly the estimated cost. A really solid plan will list these items up front, much like a good recipe.

It is best to know what you will be getting yourself into before you start. Another thing to look for is whether or not the writer of the design goes into any detail about how difficult the project will be. Again this should be something stated up front, but is not needed. Keep those things in mind and you should be able to easily select a plan that will leave you satisfied in the end.

If you are interested in getting into woodworking, then one of the easiest projects you can start with is a jewelry box. Woodworking plans for jewelry boxes are very easy projects, which are perfect for the novice woodworkers. You can use woodworking plans for jewelry boxes and build them from common crown molding that can be purchased from any basic lumber store.

Woodworking plans for jewelry boxes are great because the techniques involved allow any woodworker, from beginner to advanced, to create highly detailed boxes that look great and which make excellent gifts.

Getting Started

The first thing you need to do if you are interested in going through with woodworking plans for jewelry boxes is make your wood selection. There are many different types to choose from and so whether you are planning to give the jewelry box away as a gift or hang onto it as a keepsake, decide on the wood that is going to work best.

Keep in mind that you do not even need to buy brand new wood for this, and if you have wood scraps laying around you can always use these. Then you want to start cutting the sides and ends, and once you have attained the desired thickness you need to joint one edge, then rip and joint the opposing edge to a finished width of about 4 inches.

Then you get to work on the top and bottom, making these a bit thicker because you want them to be sturdier. Finish sanding all inside surfaces so they will not be rough on hands that reach into the box and dry fit them together. Then as long as everything fits together properly you can apply the glue and clamp the sides and ends together.

Make sure that you give the glue adequate time to dry, at least 24 hours or so, and then you should lightly sand the box again just to make sure that everything is smooth and that any dried glue is sanded off.

Next you want to form the keyed joints with a special jig, as this will add class to your box and a finishing touch. You then need to add in the tray and supports in the box, which will be where you will separate all the jewelry and store it. You can basically change up these formats in your woodworking plans for jewelry boxes as you like, just make sure that there are enough separate areas for all your different types of jewelry.
