Drill Flashlight
I have a green laser pointer that uses 3AAA batteries, I want to run it on a 4.5 adapter, will it work?
The battery compartment negative faces laser end, positive toward back end spring. If I remove spring, drill hole, install input plug ( negative to tip, positive to frame) soldier wires from battery pack to input plug, insert plug from 1.5 to 12V adapter, set at 4.5V, will it work? It also has a red and white flashlight which comes on with left or right twist at front, but all power provided from rear battery pack. Laser is rated as 5mW, DC adapter says maximum is 300mA will it work??? if so, how to do it correctly? This laser is being used on a 16" Dob Telescope as a finder and eats 3AAA batteries in 1/2 hour. Laser has a one minute on cycle, repress button for another minute, etc. 30 minutes, batteries drained for laser, but flashlights still operate. I think when batteries reach 4.0V, laser is non functional? Thanks, Vance
It will typically work on adapters that have good voltage regulation. Cheap dumb adapters have high voltage at low load and normal voltage at rated load. A dumb 300mA adapter could give 4.5V at full load but 5V or higher when load is only 150mA or less. A cheap adapter with poor voltage regulation could fry your laser pointer.
